DOPING OF CALIENTE

MARE'S QUICK RECOVERY WORK ON THE TRACKS (Per Press Association.) CHinSTCIITJRCII, last night. An analysis of saliva taken yesterday has afforded definite pr.oof that the mare Caliente was poisoned. The poison was mercuric chloride, a white powder, which could have been put in the mare's feed. The mare was in bright order this morning and, apparently, had fully recovered. She was galloped five furlongs. It is not yet certain whether her engagement in the New Zealand Cup will be cancelled. She will be given easy work to-morrow and a decision will then be made.
