THE DEMOCRAT LEADER
ADDRESS AT HAMILTON REPLY TO CRITICISM (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, this day. Devoting most of his speech to replies to recent criticism by the Government leaders, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, leader of the Democrat Party, addressed a packed house in the Theatre Royal last evening. He assailed the Government's charge of touting for votes, levelled at the Democrats, when, in the last few weeks, the' Government had restored the :7i per cent, civil service «ut, promised public works, free libraries, free milk, and reduced unemployment taxation. After its record, the Government might well express horror at borrowing, but the Democrat borrowing would be designed at aiding self-supporting works. A vote of thanks and confidence was declared to be carried.
