Mr. .1. H. Edmundson has been unanimously reelected president of the Automobile Association (TLB.). Mr. P. L. Halsted, Dunedin, managing director of the D.1.C., will leave Auckland by the Akaroa for England. Mr. W. O. Williams has been elected president of the South Taranaki Automobile Association for the second year in succession. ■

Mr P. W. Hunt, senior telegraphist at Palinerston North Post Office, has been transferred on promotion to Gore as supervisor of the Telegraph branch-

Colonel and Mrs. N. P. _ Adams, of Clevedon, are returning to New Zealand by the Rangitata, which is due at Auckland on November 20.

Mr. G. A. Hart. Wellington city engineer, is to leave for Auckland next week in connection with a report on the future drainage system of gireater Auckland. Mr. A. F. Ellis, representative of the New Zealand Government on the board of the British Phosphate Commissioners, who has been visiting Nauru Island and Ocean Island, has returned to Auckland. Flying-Officer A. T. Orchard, of the Royal Air Force, is returning by the Rangitata with his wife and family to take up duties on the staff of Cook Strait Airways, Limited. Mr. Orchard is a native of Blenheim.

Dr. C. M. Murray, a retired Capetown medical practitioner, who attended the recent conference of the British Medical Association in Melbourne, and has since been visiting New Zealand, leaves Auckland to-day for Sydney, on his return to South Africa. A well-known visitor to the Dominion, Mr. C. Alma Baker, of the Federated Malay States, arrived at Auckland on Wednesday from Sydney to spend another season deep-sea fishing at the Bay of Islands. Mr. Baker has visited New Zealand regularly for the past 12 years. Mr. M. M. Cooper, who was chosen to captain the Oxford University against the All Blacks, is a New Zealand Rhodes Scholar. He was at one time a pupil of the Napier Boys' High School, and later a student at Massey Agricultural College. A further success has been gained by Mr. J. A. W. Bennett, of Morton College, Oxford, and formerly of Auckland University College. Mr. Bennett, who secured a first class pass in the Honors School of English Literature examinations earlier this year, has been awarded a Harmsworth Senior Scholarship. The engagement is announced in London of Richard Nicholson, second youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Shaw, of Gisborne, to. Georgina, eJdest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S, Hanna, also of Gisborne, wrote a London corespondent on Ottober 12. Miss Banna, and her parents are returning to the Dominion by the Rangitata, duo at Auckland on November 20.

Mr H. Le Bas, of the Hawke's Bay Education Board's staff, has resigned his position in order tot accept a commercial appointment in Gisborne. Mr Le Bas has been on the board's staff for a number of years, and has been prominent in such sporting activities as swimming and hockey, being a member of the Te Awa and Scinde clubs in the respective spheres. Passengers who travelled from Gisborne to Napier yesterday by the East Coast Airways' service included Mesdames M. Smith, R. W. Corson and child, and A. F. Houston; Misses M. Williams and McMillan; Messrs. Dickson, Davies, Coo and Cioodson. Those who travelled to Gisborno included Messrs. Mendelssohn, Gibson, Dickson, Wilkie and Rhodes.

The prospects of the Dunedin actor, Mr. Colin Tapley, are reported to be very promising at Hollywood. Mr. Guy Tapley, who, accompanied by his wife, has returned from a trip abroad, states that his brother's contracts with the Paramount concern previously provided for six months' options, but in the latest contract that has been arranged with the company the options have been extended to 12 months.
