FAMED EVANGELIST DEAD
PASSING OF "BILLY" SUNDAY (Elec. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) CHICAGO, Nov. 6. The death occurred at- Chicago to-day, from angina pectoris, of the Rev. William "Billy" Sunday, the world-famous evangelist," aged 72 years. The late "Billy" Sunday was born in a ramshackle two-roomed cabin on a ICO- - farm in Story County, lowa, ami at t.lie age of six years had to start doing odd jobs in order to help keep the family. He took up baseball, and it;.is said that if he had not "got religion" he would have been as famous as Babe Ruth. Seeking further education, he attended the North-Western University, and had a. winter job there as a sports coach. He was attracted to religion by a street preacher, and (hen started a revival campaign of his own. becoming a public idol and the talk of the land. At. onei time he was drawing audiences of from 20,000 to 40,000 people, and in a 10-week campaign in New Y'ork spoke to 1,500,000 people, ile handled enormous sums of money, but he gave large sums away and the £120.000 he had saved 1 was'finally lost, in the depression, and then he was affected by a. heart attack in the middle of a sermon. SCIENTIST AND EXPLORER MR. IT. F. OSBORN DIES NEW YORK, Nov. 6. The death, from heart failure, of Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborne, has occurred. He was a famous scientist, explorer, and author, and was aged 78 years. Born in Fairfield, Conn., in 1857, the late Mr. Osborne became a professor at Princeton University in 1881, and subsequently served on the staffs of other institutions. His exploration work commenced in his own country in 1891 and he afterwards led expeditions to various parts of the world. He received honors from learned institutions throughout the world. He was a prolific writer on scientific subjects, his first publication appearing in 1894 and his last in 1931.
