TUAHINE LIGHT OVERHAUL RECEIPTS £9530 DOWN REPORT TO THE BOARD

Reporting to the monthly meeting ot lire Gisborne Harbor Board to-day, the secretary-manager, Mr 11. A. Barton, stated, inter alia : “Slipway.—Tho Gisborne. Lighl.eringStevedoring Company’s launch Tikirau was again taken up on the. small slipway on October 7, and was unslipped on the same day. “Oil Fuel.—The first supply ot 100 40-gallon drums of fuel oil lor the new dredge was delivered at No. 3 wharf from the motor vessel Paua on October 19. They were removed from the wharf by means of the old grab crane and punt, and stored in the new store at the Waikanae basin.

“Tuahine Lighthouse.—The foreman lias inspected the Tuahine lighthouse, and he finds that it requires chipping and painting. The work has to be carried out at a time when the tides suit for access. It is proposed to commence at about the middle of November. It will take four men about eight days to complete the job. “Mnriwai Beacon.—The back beacon on the bill at Mnriwai requires repairs and paint. This will be attended to during November. “Balance Sheet.—The statements of account and balance sheet for the year ended September 30, 1935, are prepared, but cannot be finalised until a statement is received from the bank in .London- “ Cash Statements and 1 Trade Returns. —The usual cash statements and trade returns show that during the month ol September, 4291. tons of cargo passed inward over the wharves as compared with 3547 tons for the same month last year, and 2906 tons .went outward compared with 2684 tons during September last year.

“The return covering 12 months to Iho end of September shows 46,494 tons inward against 45,396 for the same period last year and 39,2(97 tons outward against 42.1215 tons last year. This shows and increase of 1098 tons of imports and a decrease of 2918 tons of exports. “The cash statement figures for the year ended September 30, 1935, compared with the previous years figures under main headings show as follows: “Receipts.—Ship charges, 1935 £7545, (1934, £8023) wharfage, £15,956, (£17.769) : harbor improvement rate, £6310, (£6192); rents, £7342, (£6507); rates, £33.682, (£38,958) ; Unemployment Board wages, £254, (£496); launch hire, £462. (£369) ; sale of plant and material, £757, (£3494); miscellaneous, £1744, (£1774); totals, £74,052, (£83.582,), “This shows a decrease of £9530 in receipts accounted for by smaller arrears of rates, the 10 per cent reduction of wharfage charges, and less plant for sale.

“Expenditure.—This yvas as under: Interest, sinking fund and hank charges, 1935 £55,724, (1934 £59,302); redemption 1924-54 loan, .£3394, (nil); general expenditure £13,964, (£12,920); new plant, buildings etc, £9O, (£58); totals, £73,172, (£72,280). _ “This shows an increase of £892 in expenditure. “The sum of £7989 2s lOd expended on the. new grab di-edge unit is not shown in the above, the amount , being largely provided by the reserve fund 1 and the loan assets realisation fund.” The secretary-manager’s report was adopted without discussion.
