DIGGERS’ REUNION

BIG ANNUAL FUNCTION HEADQUARTERS VISITOR For the annual reunion of the Gisborne district Returned Soldiers’ Association, to be held to-morrow evening at the City Ilall, the association will have as its principal guest the Dominion vice-president, Mr B. J. Jacobs, of Palmerston North. His genial personality has made itself felt in successive .conferences of the national organisation, ami apart from his capability as an association official, he ranks among the most popular speakers in Palmerston North. So many are the calls upon his time that the Gisborne executive considers itself most- fortunate to have secured his acceptance of the invitation extended some months ago in anticipation of to-morrow’s 'reunion.

Among the men who give their time and thought to solving the difficulties of the less fortunate section of the returned soldiers, Air. Jacobs is looked on as a source of inspiration, and his record as president of the Palmerston North district association speaks for itself in this connection He has a finir for the humorous, however, and his contribution to a short programme of speech-making to-morrow should be of special interest.

In accordance with the usual procedure, the reunion programme will be principally musical and anecdotal, and speeches will be cut to a minimum. Resides Mr. Jacobs, the returned men will entertain a‘ handful of other guests whose services to the association during the past year have been outstanding. No endeavor, however, can be made to acknowledge in this way all the good services rendered, as' this would make the gathering unwieldy. Civilian guests at the reunion will be representative of the large body of helpers to whom the association owes its acknowledgements.

The usual conditions of admission will apply to the gathering), tickets being available from the district secretary’s office up to the hour of the commencement oi the programme.
