RAILWAY EARNINGS
SMALL GAIN IN JUNE IMPROVEMENT OF £255 An improvement of £255 in net revenue for the four-weekly period ended June 22, compared'with the corresponding period last year, is-shown by the railway working account, an abstract of which was gazetted on Thursday night. This gives precise details of tho, position, concerning which a preliminary statement by the general manager was published on July 19. The figures were £40,342 and £40*087 respectively. The gross revenue for the period was £477,993, which was £25,623 greater, than last year. Expenses were increased by £25,368 to £437,651. The operating account for the North Island lines shows revenue amounting to £244,841. an increase of £19,638, and expenses totalling £235,899, an increase of £16,579. There was a profit of £8942, compared •with £5883 last year. From the South Island railways receipts were £179,703, an increase of £4262. Expenses were £171.267, or £7256 inoro than last year. There was a profit of £8436, compared with £11,430. Tho balance of miscellaneous revenue was £22,964, as against £22,774. The gross revenue was £53,449, and the expenditure £30,485. For the 12 weeks of the current financial year , net revenue was £264,337, as against £263,109 last year, £212,047 in 1933, £192,253 in 1932, £211,742 in 1931, and £201,377 in 1930. The gross revenue was £1,550,762, an increase of £59,118, while the working expenses were £1,286,425, or £57,890 more than in 1934.
