TRACKMAN’S TRIAL
RESULTS FROM THE PARK IMPR< > V El> ATTENDANCE GOOD HUNTING HAS A >VIN AI tendance figures at the Park course to-(lav were probably better than for env Poverty Hay Turf Club meeting since 1939. judging by the maimer which the crowds overflowed on to the terraces from the grandstand during the running of the events. The excellent weather tlo doubt contributed to the really good attendance, while the track was in splendid condition and the racing was of a high order by comparison with past meetings held in this district. The first race, the Gisborne Hurdles Handicap, was won by 1 tic top weight. Million, who was ridden a patient race and came home well from half-a-mile out to beat Victor Colima by half-n-length pulling u[>. The race was run slowly and until Million started to move there was not much interest in it. The winner was stopping fast at the finish when he seemed to have the race, won by a couple of lengths and Leach on Victor .Colima nearly-stole the . race by a last desperate spurt. Two strides beyond the post Ins mount was in front. The top weight won the Trial Handicap also. Trackman proving too good for tile other runners and going right awjty Fo win in the straight hv 21, ldngths from the favorite, Pbkiha,' with Morning Quest finishing solidly in third, placet Acranna, who made the early pace, was fourth, tiring quickly m the straight.

' Capelin Abbey and Cromwell were withdrawn from the Gisborne Hurdles Handicap and of the five left to Contest the" event the public Chose Victor Colima and Tahomit, to carry the bulk of the’ money. From the start Hunting Lass and Tahoma were the first to show out and behind them were Victor Colima, Isms: and Million in that order, the top weight being taken along very quietly. All cleared the first and second jumps without trouble and coining to the straight Victor Colima and Tahoma made a move, going to the front and passing the stand in that order, with Hunting Lass, Isms and Million behind them. The three leaders rapped the jump in the straight, and round on the east bend Hunting Lass ran down the jump there and. from that stage dropped out of the.race.. Tahoma' continued to lead round to the back stretch, where Million pnt on the pace a bit and closed up tile field, taking Isms up to within a length, or two of the leading ‘pair, Tahoma and Victor Colima, : being on even terms at the half-mile, with Million and Isms close up. Tahoma found the pace too solid on the west bend and Began to drop back, while Million again, came forward and at the home turn was running on terms with Victor Colima in the lead. All the acceptors were paraded for the Trial Handicap and in a good pool Pokiha was made first choice, with Trackman carrying 40 fewer ’ ticaets and the next fancy, Double Ace, having over 200 tickets less than the top weight. Morning Quest was 'fourth, on the machine.
From a good even start Acranna and Truckman were the first sighted, with Morning Quest and Pokiha in close at tendance, Blue Vision being also smart off the . mark and in a good position after half a furlong. Trackman' was steadied up a Lit and was lying in behind Acranna, Pokiha arid Double Ace nr the half-mile, Blue Vision being on the outside. Royal Welcome tailed iff early in the race after a slow start and, never looked like figuring in the decision. Three furlongs from home Acranna was on the rails, with Pokiha and Double Ace outside and practically on level terms with her, and Trackman just in behind, with Morning Quest and Sir Ace' also close up. iTouriding the turn Acranna still held the lead, but was not looking like a winning, being easily accounted for at the distance by Trackman, who put in a strong' finish and scored an easy win by 2£ lengths from Pokiha, with Morning Quest third two lengths behind Pokiha. Acranna was fourth and Double Ace fifth. Time, lrnin. 16 4-ssec. WAIKAXAE HANDICAP, of _£7o; second horse, £10; third, £5; .1 mile. 5 €. 1.. Of the nine horses accepted for in the Waiknnue Handicap, Big Dookl Malalmt, and Marching Song were withdrawn and the public choice settled on Iloyal Bengal, who was a warm favorite when the machine closed, hut never held a good position throughout .the race. Alby w,i» well hacked, and Good Hauling was far from being neglected, while some money was spread over tin; chances of the'other four runnier*.; A good dispatch was! made from a walk-up start and Tni Ao. Alby and HdyaL Bengal went out last,- with Mata Hari and Good Hunting also getting away well from the outer. Good Hunting 'sprinted np to the front in the first furlong and at the seven furlongs post was on level ■ terms with 'Alby, with Mata Hari third and Tai Ao -fourth, Royal Bengal, Sunny Sky and Vanestep I being the • order of the other three.' Turning into the back stretch, Good
Hunting got the lead and Mata Hari lay second, with Alby third and Royai Bengal fourth, the order of the other three being the same as given above. There was no change in the position until they reached the half-mile peg.’ where Good Hunting was going nicely in front and setting a good pace, with, Mata Hari hanging on close, and Alliy two lengths hack. Royal Bengal still being in fourth place. The field had been well strung out along the stretch, but Vanestep and Sunny Sky now began to close up the gaps and on the West bend the field started to bunch, Good Hunting was still in front at the turn for home, and Alby was ranging alongside Mata Hari, trying for a run on the inside. Mata ITari did not leave an opening, however, and Alby’s rider took him off the rails to offer a clTallcnge to the finishing strongly. Sunny Sky was a long way the fastest in the straight, and had she been in a better position at the turn probably would have, won, for Good Hunting was less than a length in front of'Alby at the judge’s box and Sunny Sky was just a, neck apt of second money. After the three placed horses came Mata Ilari, Royal Bengal, Vanestep and Tai Ao. Time, lmin. 44 4-5 sec. Second hack flat, handicap 1 GASMAN (J.
