Turnbull was the best of the four Ho served and smashed with savage accuracy. The Australians were generally .stipetier, volleying and smashing.

Tuckey, England's new Davis Cup recruit, is playing much better with experience. He is serving poworlully and his ground strokes have improved. Wallis Myers, writing in the Daily Telegraph with reference to Crawford’s defeat of Perry, comments that Perry’s Eastbourne form does not mean that tie will play the same at Wimbledon, where he has previously produced centre court regenerations. “The best of Perry emerges! on the right day,’’ says the critic. “Never theless, Crawford staged a game which, even at his best, Perry ■would have had difficulty in subduing. It was Crawford of our dreams,” concludes the critic.

Harry Hopman, writing in the Sun on tennis subjects, says the Australians’ tour has been a financial success. He estimates that the profits, without the Eastbourne takings, where most of the seats have been sold, should approach £2OOO. The Now Zealand tie yielded £IOO, the French £2500, and-the German £OOO.
