fFTonild Correspondent.> The improvement circle of the Pututahi Women’s Institute met on Thursday afternoon, the covener, Airs. E. R. Renner, presiding over a good attendance. Interesting leather work was continued under the capable instruction of Airs. W. AlcGibbon, while the making of raffia trays proceeded apace under the able guidance of Alesdames W. Jensen ’ and Richardson. At the next monthly meeting AFrs. O. Robinson will give a demonstration of smocking. Mrs. tier was hostess at a dainty afternoon | tea. ' Yesterday afternoon the Patutahi School first fifteen played their final match in the first round of the Primary schools country competition, defeating Manntnke by 21 points to nil. The game was played on Te Arai Domnin and Mr. P. Te Han was the referee. The visitors outweighed the home team, which, however, numbered many plucky players whose stubborn defence prevented what otherwise might have been 'more-of a runaway victory. The fnl buying boye represented Alanutuke : —T. Rickard, I. Epairina, S. Jones, S. Heecham. B. Poulgrain. E. Carrington. G. pere, W. Poniana, E. Burrows, captain, P. Williams, T. Walker, AT. Barby. IT. .Maynard, L. Jacques and B. McGregor. The slippery condition of I lie field mitigated against good back work, but both sides threw the ball about well. For the winners, tries were scored by L. Williams (2), R. Tuhoe (2), and N. Halbert, Williams converting three. Afessrs. A. Hills and R. AlcGrannachan, who have been staying with the former’s relatives, Air, and Airs. C. H. McCracken, Te Puia Springs, have returned home.—Aliss Joan ATorrow, who, is a patient in the Cook Hospital, is ’•regressing favorably.—Air. D. AlcCorkindale, who has been the guest of Air. and ATrs. ,T. Alorrow, has returned to Wairoa.
