PRIVATE EARNINGS

RELIEF WORKERS’ LIMITS

Information regarding how much relief workers may earn privately before their relief pay is reduced was contained in a message received by Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., from the Minister of Employment, tbo lion. S. G. .Smith. The Minister stated that there was uo reduction in relief pay unless the total income, including relief pay, exceeded the figure calculated on the following basis: —Iu respect of applicant, £1 5s a week; in respect of wife, £1 a week; in respect of each bonutide dependant, 4s. Before a married relief worker has his pay reduced, therefore, he may earn up to £2 5s a week and an extra 4s a week for each dependant, counting both his relief pay and outside payments.
