Lancashire Story
THOSE who read “Blind Alley" * Alley” will know that Air T Thompson can write a good Laneashiie story. In “s-rmg o’ Sixpence” the dialect may he difficult at first lor readers, but a little perservernnee in this respect is well worth while, for Zanharv Kaye is a Lancashire lad o. parts, who gets on in the world with that grit and’gunipl ion supposed to ho characteristic of ihe county Palatine. Zachary is a “cough-drop king” who ends as mayor after various vicissitudes, and is a taking character in spite of his pertinacious ways and rough-and-ready pushfulness, while Sally, Alfred, the policeman, the pie pedlar and other folk in the book are all well worth meeting. Zachary s proposal to Sally when she is about to leave with her trunk packed is a gem.
