CARD PARTY (1 to raid Correspondent.) A most successful flag five.-himdmt party was held in the VVaikohu llall on Tuesday evening. It was in aid ol Hie Women’s Institute s funds and was very well attended. Dancing was indulged in In music provided by Mrs. (jetton and .Miss Kitnev. A Monte Carlo waltzing competition was won bv Mrs. McKenzie and Mr. G. Jones. A hamper competition .was won by .Mrs. R. V. Malone, with Mr. Hamilton, Gisoorne, second. Mr. 11, Allan sang a song which.was much appreciated. Mrs. R. Hall, .Misses Jvitney and Jaeksdn performed a skipping! dance, lhe winncis of the flag five-hundred were Mr. and Mrs. L. Morris, Miss Parsons and Mr. i<\ Gliarleris, other prizes being won by Mr. P. Buckingham, Mrs. Brown, ami Mr. C. Doran. A delicious supper was nrovided liy tlie ladies. Morris, S. Wilkins, W. Bull, M. B. Manuel, and Malone. SCHOOL SPOUTS TROPHIES \ presentation of sports trophies was made bv Mr. F. Cook at the Te Karaite District High School on Tuesday. The Headmaster congratulated the winners, and mentioned that lie hoped to sec more competition in regard to these sports next year. In presenting the Tennis Cup, the winner of which was Shirley Luttrell, Mr. Cook congratulated the runners-up, and said that he hoped that, they would ho ready next season to challenge the present holder to a scientific game ot tennis. The athletic sports cups wore then presented, the winners of the. senior 'iris being Marion Caleott, and senior ’oys A. MeAueney. The winner of the junior girls’ sports cup was Judy Jautau, and junior hoy Mervyn Brown. ,n concluding. Mr. Cook (old the losers not lo lie disheartened, but to try next year to compete against this year s sur•ossful competitors and wrest from them the honors they had attained. WAIKOHU GOLF CLUB The Waikolm Golf Club’s links have been well patronised by players, who have taken advantage ’of the sunny days. Although the links have had iheir share of water, the ground and fairways are (piite playable, and the. greens are in very good order, but it the chili was in a position to employ a groenkeeper permanently they would In' quite up to first class order. Within t.he last few days a horse mower has been employed rutting the fairway, which will ’be more congenial to tlie members.
At present a- modal match is in pro: gross, and will be completed by July 31. It is expected that some creditable cards will be banded in. The course comprises nine holes, covering 2060yd5., with a scratch score of 36, and carries many natural obstacles, hut owing to the heavy soil and stock marks, a local rule has been framed allowing the ball to be ]daced on the fairways at t lie option of players. The club captain, Mr. F. Cook, has been in attendance on the links giving instruction to many of the new members, and those who have availed themselves of the rudiments of golf under liis tuition have become keen to master the intricacies of the game.
