WOMEN’S HOCKEY
N.Z. TOURNAMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT Financial support from the business people of Gisborne is already coming to hand for the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament to be held here at the end of next month. Recently, the finance committee attached to the tournament organisation decided to make an'appeal to business people, pointing out that the tourna-. meat would be of direct benefit to them aid that funds were urgently required o put the grounds in order. The circulars went out a few days ago and yesterday a well known businessman wrote, enclosing a cheque for _os 6d, and stating that he believed, .vith other businessmen, that lie was in accord with t,he efforts of tl.ie Poverty .lay Hockey Association in securing! the .ourmuiieiit for Gisborne. lie suggested that, tlie association should approach • un again, at. the close of the tournament, if it. failed to balance its budget. Mr. A. Cassin, who is supervising riangements, gave tho above informa--ion to-day, and said that any member of the finance committee would be ileaseil to give a receipt lor any donations. ENTRY FROM WELLINGTON The Wellington Women’s Hockey As--.oeiation intends to enter the tournament again this year. At the last tournament, Wellington was one of the most successful teams, and carried off me of the trophies. Billeting will be required for 15 players and accommodaitm for a manager. Advice was also isked on the matter of transport. WAIROA REP. TEAMS The Wairoa men and women's representative teams will visit Napier next uuurday to meet teams representing the Napier sub-association.
