HIGH SCHOOL CONTROL

BOARD OF GOVERNORS MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of! the Gisborne High school Board of Governors was held last evening, when there were present Messrs L. T. Burnard, K. B. Baker. It, Robertson, T. Todd, 11. IS. Bright J. If. Sunderland, and F. W l . Nolan. Regarding the proposal to provide shelter for children at lunch time, the grounds and building committee reportal that it had been unable to go into the matter owing to lack of time. Mr. E. H. Baker was added to - the per sound of the committee 1 , which, will reoort at the next monthly meeting. The special sub-committee deputed to consider the question, of spoken English in the school also reported that it had not had the opportunity to go into the matter. The board was advised that Mr T. Todd had prepared a statement on the subject for the information of the staff. It was decided that the committee should meet the staff at a suitable date to confer upon the matter. The committee will then report back to the board at next meeting. The secretary reported that nominations for representatives of parents af> pupils had closed on Saturday last and no additional nominations to those of, the present representatives on the board had been received. , Messrs, H, Sun-, derland and 11. E. Bright were declared re-elected.

Evening classes are attended by 194 individual students. Mr. Adams has adapted a Maori story to dramatic purposes, and this will provide an excellent means of self-expression to a group of pupils now in training for a concert.! to which all who care to attend will be invited.

H. Black, who won a university entrance scholarship at this school in 1931, upon winning the senior scholarship of the University New Zealand in engineering this' year.’'
