SEEKING ELECTION

THE WAIRAU SEAT DEMOCRAT JOINS FIELD (Per Press Association.) '.BLENHEIM, this day. Mr Malcolm McKenzie, who has just retired from the Blenheim mayoralty after a lengthy term of office has consented to contest the YVairau seat at the general elections in the interests of the Democrat Party.

This brings the field up lo five candidates as follows: Messrs E. F. lleal.V (Government), lv. Meecham (Labor). .1. A. Reilly (Independent). M. W. Grace (Independent), and Malcolm McKenzie (Democrat).

Mr McKenzie has completed 18 years on the Blenheim Council during 10 of which he was Mayor, never being opposed at tlie elections, lie has also been associated with inanv ether public bodies and is the President of the Marlborough Rugby Union. LABOEITE for patea The Ilawera brunch of the New Zealand Labor Party has selected Mr. W. C. Simpson, of Ilawera, as its candidate for the I'atea electorate at the forthcoming general election. The selection has not yet been endorsed by the national executive of the party. The Wanganui branch's official Labor candidate, Mr. J. lb Cotterill, will open his campaign lo.morrow night, and will be assisted bv the Rev. Civde ("air. M.P.
