DUEL WITH SWORDS
CONTEST IN AUCKLAND ENGLISHMAN'S VICTORY HONOR SATISFIED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this clay. A duel with naked swords is reported to have been fought; in Aucklnnd last Friday night.
The victor in the contest was a former English army officer, who, with his sword, nicked the upper arm of his opponent, who thereupon withdrew. Tlio dispute which led to the duel arose in an hotel between the Englishman and a stranger, said to bo a foreigner, who made a grossly insulting remark about- King George. The Englishman told him be would not sully Ids hands by striking lum'and challenged him to a- duel, which the foreigner readily accepted.
A dwelling ground wns found in, n room on the top lloor of a city building. Seconds were appointed, and. Coats and collars haying been removed; the 'fight began, duelling swords being used. They fought for several minutes. Neither gained an advantage until the Englishman ran his sword through the fleshy part of his antagonist's arm. Honor being satisfied, the contest i o ended.
