HIGHEST BUILDING
“PALACE OP SOVIETS’' MOSCOW, June 1. The colossal “Palace of the Soviets/' destined to he tile highest building in the world, is to be erected with the expert advice of a great New York firm of sky-scraper designers. It will be 1361 ft. high, more than three times as high as the cross on the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral in London (365 ft-.), 376 ft. higher than the Lift'd Tower, Paris, and 115 ft. higher than America’s highest building, the Empire State building. But the last 200 ft. of the “Palace of the Soviets” will Ik* a, giant chromium-plated statute of Lenin.
The original design accepted for this steel and marble tower has been compared to a towering, tapering wedding cake. Studies undertaken by a hoard of Russian architects in Italy and America have greatly, modified the first scheme, but it is still impossible to inspect the final plan. Recourse to American experience will lead to making better use of the interior of the building for offices and public halls, >
