VISIT TO GISBORNE TUESDAY’S PROGRAMME SHORT FLIGHT OVER R.B. Further exchanges of letters hetween the Gisborne Borough Council and the Governor-General’s military .secretary have taken place regarding the 'programme of official functions which Their Excellencies will participate in during their visit to Gisborne next week, a further change in the original programme having been in respect oi' the school children’s gathering, which is to be put forward from noon to 11.2 b a.m. , A period of 45 minutes is to be allowed for the civic welcome' to Viscount and Viscountess Gahvav on Tuesdnv morning, and in this connection the Mayor, Mr D. W. Coleman, M.P., has issued a request to employers to permit their staffs to be free from 3.4/5 o’clock to 10.40 o’clock in order that they may attend the reception to Their Excellencies at the Majestic Theatre. At the close of this ceremony, His Excellency will repair to the Ring’s Theatre, where he will briefly address returneti soldiers of the district, while Viscountess Ctalwav will take morning te.'i with members of the Gisbonie Women’s Club. At 11.25 o’clock, the Governor-General and’ Lady Galway will return to the Majestic to receive the greeting of the school children, to whom His Excellency will make a short address on Empire subjects, prior to making the. presentation of prizes in connection with the Victoria League's essay competition. After leaving the children’s gathering, the Viceregal visitors will return tu their suite in the Masonic Hotel, and later will attend luncheons given in their honor by the Rotary Club and Victoria League respectively. The afternoon's programme will include visits to the Memorial Home and the Hook Hospital, where afternoon tea will be served to Their Excelllencies; and a flight, by Lord Galway in one of the East Coast Airways’ planes over die district. This latter feature of the day’s proo mill me was welcomed by His Excellency, as providing an opportunity tc judge of the extent of settlement, and he general features of the countryide. On first learning of Lord Galwav’s intention to visit the district, East Coast Airways’ management offered to place a plane at his disposal •ither for a flight to Napier, or for a light-seeing flight over Poverty Bay, ;I is Excellency later intimating, hrough his military secretary, that lie would accept the latter invitation. The plane will take off shortly before 4 p,m„ weather conditions being favorable. An invitation to Her Excellency to • Itend the Girl Guides’ ball during her visit to Gisborne has been regretfully declined, on the same grounds as those advanced for declining the invitation o an entertainment preferred, by the combined women’s organisations of Gisborne. Details of the programme have been finalised by the Borough Council as under: — . Monday.—7 p.m.:, Viceregal party wilt arrive, and be met informally at tin- Masonic, Hotel by the Mayor. Tuesday. —10 a.m.: A civic vyeleome will be accorded Their Excellencies in the Majestic Theatre, where an address )( welcome will be presented to the Governor-General, and .a bouquet to Viscountess Galway. 11 a.m.: Gisborne Women’s Club will entertain Lailv Galway at morning tea, and Tlis Excellency will meet returned soldiers. 11.25 a.m.: Their Excellencies, will licet school children in the Majestic Theatre. 1 p.m.: His Excellency is :o lie the guest of the Rotary Club at luncheon in the Masonic Hotel, and Her Excellency the guest of the Vienna League at luncheon in the Gislorne Hotel. Afternoon: Their Excel* U-ncios will visit the Memorial Home md Cook Hospital, where afternoon tea. will be served.
