GISBORNE LAND BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS The monthly meeting of the Gisborne Land Board was held yesterday, there being present, the Grown Lands Commissioner., Mr. H. L. Primrose, and Messrs. J. 11. Reid, Pi.. 11. Wioksteed, A. Cl. Nolan and G. O. Donovan. The business list was fairly lengthy, and as usual included a number of matters of interest only to the board, the Lands Department, and the settlers on Crown lands. An application from A. C. Mudford, for section 4, block XXI, Moanui S.D.. of 2652 acres, was declined. Two blocks of the Mangawaru area were reserved by the board for the. present, as a climatic reserve. A report from the field inspector, Mr. D. G. Robertson, was received in connection with improvements and fulfilment of a statutory improvement conditions on Crown leases in the Opotiki and Waioeka district. It was agreed by the board that each of the cases referred to in the report would receive individual consideration, on its merits. Three of the cases referred to were those of R. K. Yardley’s lease of 826 acres in block XVI in the Waiawa S.D.; A. Chilcott s lease of 1654 acres in black IV, Waioeka S.D.; and A. J. Mcßae’s lease of 1690 acres in block XIV, Waioeka S.D. The board signified its satisfaction with the man ner in which the improvement conditions on these three properties had been carried out. An area of 3276 acres, a small grazing run in the Matakaoa survey district, abandoned bv the former lessee, was dealt with, tlie lease being declared for feit, and the board resolving that steps be taken to have the area re-offered fo> selection, the land to bo classified as second-class land, in terms of section 127 (2) .of the Land; Act, 1934. . An extension of his tenancy on a year to year basis was accorded J. M.Monckton, in respect of an area 0f.486 acres in the Hangaroa and Opoiti survey district, the tenancy to continue until the expiry of a small grazing run lease held by the applicant. A temporary tenancy of section 1block VIII, Urutawa, was granted to RG. Gibson. The board was asked to dispose of section 6, block XIV, Taramarama S.D.. an area of 1043 acres. Instructions were given that the area be offered for selection, on the optional system. An application by D. Thomas for section 5, block HI, Waiau S.D., a total of 880 acres, was submitted for consideration by the board, and it was resolved to grant a temporary tenancy, on the usual conditions.

In connection with the expiry of vS.G.R. lease 102, held by E. W. M. Wallis, over run 31, Hangaroa S.D., the board appointed Mr. IF. R. Telford to act as arbitrator for the Crown in assessing the value of improvements.
