AIR FORCE PLANES

PAINTING OF MARKINGS MELBOURNE, July 3. In order* to differentiate British ftom French nnnv aircraft, which hitherto have carried" similar markings, the red, white ami blue circles on thfe fails will bo obliterated. The rule will apply also to Australian air force machines, The vertical stripes with which the rudders of Air Force planes are painted have in the past frequently needed retouching, and the repeated coats ol paint have tended to make the balance of the rudders uneven. A lending experimental pilot believes that this is apt to make the rudders less sensitive, and the outcome will probably be that orders will be given not to retouch the painting once it is completed.
