(Herald Correspondent.) The second of the series of euchre tournaments arranged by the Alotu Bcliool Committee was held last Ha 1 - urdav night. The attendance exceeded expectations, and at the request of the young people, dancing was added to the programme, and a very jolly evening was spent. Airs W. Burborougli rind Air ,Stewart, supplied the music for dancing. Alosdam.es F. .Donaldson and F. Read and Alcssrs W. Donaldson and If. Burborough were the prizewinners at euchre. The chairman announced that the third tournament would he held on J uly JJ. Despite the fact that the regular until service, per train from Gisborne, has mid to lie suspended, mails have been arriving and leaving regularly each nay. The greatest inconvenience, through tho slip on the railway line, is the hold-up of goods, and as there are no service cars througt. Atotu to Gisborne passengers are finding a difficulty in procuring means of transit other than by private cars. Airs J. Quirk and family returned to Aljotuhorn from Gisborne oil Tuesday. —Air A. G. Legge has returned to Alotu from. Auckland.—Mr E. PFisher will be in. the chair at the meeting to be held by Alt’ G. Hullquist, the Labour candidate for the Bay of Plenty. —Air 1). Dunn, Gisborne, is on duty at the Alotu post olliec, relieving Air J>. Wintle, who is on sick leave. —Air W. Rowe, Afotuliora, has left on liis annual leave, which he- will spend in Dunedin.
