BADMINTON

GISBORNE CLUB “STAR” TOURNAMENT The Wednesday section of the Gisborne Badminton Club played a “star” tournament on Wednesday evening. As usual, a good number of players attended, and some very good games resulted. In one section the following three pairs, Miss Bullock and A. Humphreys, Miss K. Hassclt and T. Muir, and C. Lowe and W. McCallum, all finished with threo wins and one loss. The latter pair drew the bye in the play-off and eventually beat Miss Bullock and A. Humphreys, who had knocked out Miss K. Hassett and T. Muir. The winners of the second section were Miss E. Clark and S. Hodges, who won through their section without a loss. The final game between Miss Clark and S. Hodges and C. Lowe and W. McCallum was a good one, the greater experience of the first, pair standing thorn in good stead, they eventually running out winners with a few points in hand. WAJKOHU v. fiISBORN’E Last niglit the following Waikoliu players played a match witli the Gisborne club on the Cobden street courts: Miss J, Scott, Mrs. W. Bruce, Miss J. Scott, Miss G. Dyinock, Miss E. Cvansi wick, -and Miss V. Seamons; J. Holds- | worth 1 , T. Tornbleson, A. Manuel,’ G. | Cranswick, It. Reynolds, and J. Dyinock. The country team were unfortunately ! without the services of Mr. and Mrs. It. • Hutchinson, who are recognised as amongst the .leading players of this dis--1 trict. The team fielded was a very 1 sporting one and ran the local team dose in many of the games. Some good badminton was seen and altogether a very enjoyable evening was spent. A hand, round supper, served by the ladies, was much appreciated by players and spectators. Tiie match resulted in a win for the Gisborne club. POVERTY BAY CHAMPIONSHIPS Delegates from the Poverty Bay club met the Waikoliu and Gisborne club delegates last night to arrange for the Miller Trophy tournament and the Poverty Bay championships. Dates were

arranged as follows Poverty Bay championships, August 17; Miller Trophy, August 24. Further details will be available later.
