A. petition for the commutation of the sentence of death on Charles William Pri.ee. for the, murder of Evolyji Mary Madden is being forwarded t( the Executive Council by Messrs. W. S Averill and T. E. O'Dowd, Hastings counsel for the defence. Mr Averill said the whole question of an appeal has been very eurcfulU considered and both he and Mr O'Dowi agreed that Price had been given an eminently fair trial. ' There could bi no question of misdirection by the pre .siding judge, Mr Justice Blair, to the jury.
