ANNUAL TRIALS MANY YOUNG COMPETITORS (Herald Correspondent.} The 1935 trials promoted by the Wairoa County Collie Club were held on Mr A. Martin's property, on the WairoaFrasertown road, known as "Hill 60." The weather was a serious handicap, as the grounds, though ideally situated, were very wet and heavy. Taking all the circumstances into consideration, the attendance was good and comprised a larger proportion than usual of young competitors, all of whom seemed keen on their job. The stieep were a good class, arid came oft' Mr. A. T. Carroll's flue Huramua property : this-service he has been giving the club for a number of years. The judging was capably carried out by Mr. B. Fitzgerald, of Whatatutu, and on the wiiole he found a good standard of work, with a gratifying evenness throughout. Those mainly responsible lor the carrying out, of the programme were Messrs'G. C. Ormond. patron. HB. Taylor, president. Messrs F. Harrison, S A. Dickie. A. Martin. A. (.1 deLautour and I. C. Curlett, besides a very strong committee. Those mentioned,'who were present, and Messrs A. E. Beckett, as treasurer. F. Harrison and ,L W. Peebles, timekeepers, the stewards and the secretary, Mr K. .Macrae, assisted by Mr H. 11. Lyall did yonman service during the trials. The ladies ran a refreshment stall on behalf of the club, and did fair business, considering the adverse conditions. The club tendered its thanks to Mrs A. On the. evening of the second day's trials the annual social was held at Kowhai Hall, Frasertown, being largely attended. The Klick Klack orchestra provided the music and the M.C. was Mr. J. Knocks. Thanks were expressed to the following for their assistance at the dance: Mesdames G. Wilson, P. Walker. K. Wilson, M. Walker, D. Wilson, and Drysdale. The gathering was most enjoyable. Mr. W. R. Thomson undertook the killing of the sheep in the estimating contests, free of charge. The last day of the trials was fine and sunny, and the ground had dried up a good deal, but evidences were not wanting to show that the trials on the first two days had lieen carried out under extremely bad conditions, and oven on [Thursday a good deal of difficulty was experienced in getting the sheep away from the yards.
