DEAD-HEAT IN' EASTER WAR BUOY’S SUCCESS CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The weather and track were perfect for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s autumn meeting, which terminates on Wednesday. In tho Preliminary Handicap Teviot Downs made a slight tangle in the back stretch, when Norma Bingen moved up. These two were showing the way to Fairyland and Ruin at the home turn. Norma Bingen then drew out, winning easily by over a length from Ruin, who stayed on to beat Teviot by half a length, with Fairyland close up. William Tell took charge in the Fcndalton Handicap after a furlong, with Morning Sun, Master Roy, Tempest, Taxpayer, and Prairie King'following. Along the back Taxpayer took third place. Taxpayer took the lead' when the straight was reached, to win from Master Roy, with Cragauour third. In the Easter Handicap Vesuvius was the early leader from Sunny Morn. Turning for home, Vesuvius was just clear of Sunny Morn, with Wrecker, Silver de Oro, and Wild Guy next, while Glenrossio was putting in a strong run from the back. Vesuvius was in trouble 100 yards from the post, and Snnnv Morn was thou left in front, but Wild Guy got up on the post to make a dead-beat. Glenrossie’s finishing run landed him half a length away, a neck -in front ot Wrecker, with Vesuvius and Silver de Oro close up. It was a thrilling finish. Wild Guy lost his place along the back the last time, but came home brilliantly. Sunny Morn was always in the picture. , In the .Belfast Handicap, War Buo\ headed Eureka Boy when tho straight,

was readied. Taxpayer pul; in a great run and came ou with Tempest, and War Buoy’had to be driven out to wiu by a length from Taxpayer, wh'o beat Tempest, by 'half a length. Eureka Boj r was fourth, and tlion came Cloudy Range, who paced a fine race after breaking at the start. ' War Buoy had nothing to spare, and Taxpayer’s performance from a. .12-yard penalty was a great effort. Tn the Wilkin Handicap, Real Burton was in front after going two furlongs, Betty Wrack and Wild Guy following her past the stand 1 . Real Burton held her place and won by a head. Guy Junior put in a challenge at the home turn and came homo fast with Chcchalieo, who gained second place by half a head. Recess and Betty Wrack were next. In the Autumn Handicap, Sea Gift led at the far turn, where New Motford took second place. He and Sea Gift were clear of Trampfast at the entrance to the straight, and Sea Gift went on to win by a length from New Mctford.
