Thai the safety of the forestry in the rea which would he served by the road was deserving of the first consideration of the Government, was the opinion voiced bv tbe a.cting-Prinio Minister, the Hon. K. A. Ransom, in reply lo a deputation from the Napier Chamber of Commerce which waited upon him for the purpose of urging the necessity for the opening-up of the road from' Ttangitaiki to Galatea via M urn par" road shortening the distance between Vapier and Wimkatane by 70 miles. Mr Ransom expressed the view that the route was not. necessary, am l stressed the risk of fire which would be involved should the road he. made available for traffic.
