In the Italian tennis championships, Canefree, a young Italian, defeated ll°pimin (Australia), 6—4, 4—6, 6—o, o—6, 6—3. . The Australian Davis Cup players, who practised for the first time, play at Monte Carlo from April 26 to 30, only in doubles and mixed doubles, and then proceed to Eastbourne for the cup tic against New Zealand. SUCCESS OF MALFROY LONDON, April 19. At the Melbum tennis tournament, in the quarter finals, Malfroy (N.Z.) defeated Nigel Sharpe, 6—2, 6—4; Miss Hound defeated Mrs. Whittingstall* 6—l, 6—4.
