An excavator is now being landed at Dunedin to the order of the Railways Department, and other machinery is being assembled in preparation for the important job of making an open cut through the main railway lino at Puketeraki to servo instead of the tunnel. The cut, about 10 chains long and 70ft. deep, is to be on the seaward side of the tunnel.
