When all cheques were presented for payment there, would be a debit balance of £4947 Is 4d. It was recommended that application should be. made for authority for tW board to borrow by way of bank overdraft I an amount not exceeding £7500 during the quarter ending Jime 30, 1035. r : Regarding;the Cook Maternity Home loan,-the.committee recommended that the procuration fee, £27 10s, should bo paid to the brokers, Messrs. The secretary had reported the receipt of the loan moneys from the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia, Limited, with legal costs, £25 18s, and exchange :md charges, £2 lis 2d, deducted. It was recommended that payment of costs to the solicitors for the tenders, £25 18s, should be approved. The finance committee also recommended that the following amounts should be written off as bad debts:— Tolaga Bay accounts, £369 17s 10d; other institutions, £213 18s (id. The medical superintendent, Dr. 11. J. fi. Hall, reported, that 1(39 patients had been admitted'to the Cook Hospital during February, and 125 had been discharged, leaving 134 in hospital. There had been four deaths. Three patients had been admitted to •.'the Tolaga Bay Hospital and three dis'Tcharged, leaving none in hospital. I Sister E. Mi Potts, in charge of the 'maternity home, reported that during February 11 patients had been admitted, and there had been nine births. Sister Pritehard, district nurse, Matawai, reported having treated and advised 47 patients during the month, and paid 56 visits. She conveyed one patient to the. Cook Hospital by car, and gave 11 pupils of the Whakarau School their routine examination,. Sister Burgess, native district nurse, ; Tc Kaarka, reported having treated and advised 10 Europeans and 69 , Maoris during February. SH'o .visited ; 10 Maori pas and seven schools, and i gave a lecture .to the Women's Insti- , tute on cbpamon ailments of children.
She also gave typhoid inoculations, and paid 12 school home visits. The visiting committee reported that conditions in the various buildings wore found to be satisfactory. Many of the beds in the isolation block were unfit for further use, and the committee recommended that they should be examined, and those unsuitable for use disposed of. The custodian of the Memorial Home, Mr R. C. Vigis, reported that at the end of February there were eight women and 46 men in the home. During the month vegetables to the value of £9 2s 8, eggs to the value of £4 2s, and poultry to the value of Ids fid had been supplied to the hospital. The engineer, Mr D. MaeN'ab, reported that; during February painting and various repairs had been undertaken in the isolation block and nurses' home. A new steriliser and one of the new type hot and cold ■ sterile ( water units had been fitted in the ward 3 annex. The steam and hot and cold wafer services had been connected and electric light installed. Alterations had been made in the I laundry to provide I'6t the installation of the new washing machine. Coal ! consumption for the "month totalled 24 tons lOcwt., costing £(sl ss, compared [ with 25 tons, costing £O2 10s, in February, 1934. Harries, reported that
the bacteriological department agreement with the Waiapu and Wairoa boards would expire on March 31. The, existing contracts were as follow:—Waiapu, £SO per annum; Wairoa, £4O per annum. It was resolved that the agreements should he renewed as formerly in the case of Waiapu, and at a rate of £45 in the case of Wairoa.
