WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) Golden yellow daisies and marigolds were 'used most., artistically lor tho decorative scheme in the institute room for the. February meeting of the MotnMofnliora Women’s Institute on Friday afternoon. The hostesses, Mesdames h. ,]. Head. Donaldson, and G. Hutchins, were congratulated on the general arrangement of the room and deiicious aUernoon tea provided. Apologies for absence were received from a number of members for various reasons, it. was proposed to write a letter of sympathy to Mrs. L. C. Arthur, who is in hospital in Auckland, and to wish her a speedy recovery. Many helpful suggestions for the. newyear’s programme were lorthcomiug;'Practical demonstrations, lectures, de-. bates, and instructive roll-calls, which were proposed, promise to make the 1935-36 programme exceptionally interesting. On the motion of the president, Mrs. R. F. Jackson, it was decided to write a. letter of appreciation to Mrs. Rilhorough (nee .Miss S. McKenzie), for her valuable assistance in designing the haulier.

Time was given for discussion on several matters of local importance and attention was drawn to the iact that the annual general meeting will be held on March 15. Nominations were received and other matters arranged. Miss Mary Fisher, a senior pupil of the Motu (School, very clearly demonstrated the art of making dainty pictures on glass, with colored tinsel paper, and framing with passe partout. Every stage of the fascinating work was carefully explained, and Miss Fisher was given a nearly vole of thanks and great praise for the demonstration. An amusing drawing competition was won by Miss Fisher, with Mrs. Jackson second. The cooking competition/ date scones, resulted:—Mrs. Jackson, 1; Mrs. Hutchins, 2; Mrs. Wright, 5. Sewing, patch on men’s trousers: Mrs. Hutchins, 1; Mrs. Peddle, 2. Schedules lor the exhibition of handicrafts, to he held in Gisborne, were distributed, and correspondence from the Poverty Bay federation was dealt with.

The news that Mr. V. Caulton’s party had arrived safely at the mouth of tlie Mofu River was received with expressions of relief and pleasure by Mr. Caulton’s many friends in this district.

.Mrs. T. 11. Tyerman and Mrs. W. JReed, are leaving on a holiday trip to -Nelson, and will spend a few days at Ongaoiiga with Mrs. Reed’s daughter, Mrs. E. Ingram.—-There were many expressions oi sorrow when it- became known that Mr. F. M. Cleary, Waitangirua. had been taken ill and was admitted to hospital in Gisborne, on Thursday.

The Motu basketball- girls intend carrying on good work for the,.district bv arranging a euchre tournament and fiance, to be held on March 2-in aid of Sister Pritchard’s sunshine fund.
