Notifications of infectious diseases from the East (.'ape health district during the past year were again light, totalling 110, compared with 102 the previous year. There were only 17 deaths, compared with 24 in 1933.' The small increase in notifications was due to a larger number of typhoid fever cases. The total of 110 notifications for the year gives an average of just over two a week, and as the district is a wide one, extending from Wairoa to Whakatane, the tally is light.

Although there was a large increase in typhoid fever, the mini her of diphtheria cases was cut in half. The tuberculosis total remained the same, but big feature in this regard was the decline in tno number of deaths.
