STILL MISSING

YOUNG BRIDEGROOM CAMP FOUND (Per Press Association.) STRATFORD, this day. A makesnift camp, containing bread, pickles, carrots and sacks, was found near the home of the missing bridegroom, Mr. Stanley Thomas Newland, yesterday. 't lie pickles and bread had been taken from tVe homestead. There is no trace of Mr Newland. Them is still rio trace of the young man, Mr. Stanley Thomas Newland, 2k, who disappeared from Midhirst last Wednesday morning, just before the time fixed fur his wedding. All extensive search las been made by police and settlers, amt the Kahouri River, which Hows through the district, lias been dragged and searched right down to its junction with the Pa tea River. The relative's and friends, in addition to entertaining' fears for the safety of the missing man, are considerably mystified by the cireiiinslances surrounding i 1 1 0 disappearance. From statements made by relatives, it appears mat. Newland visited the home of his banecc mi the Tuesday evening and left there for his father’s home about 11 o’clock.. When ho appeared tor breakfast, next morning, however, he said that lie mid been out all night on account of encountering trouble with the car. It has since been [minted out that there was a good deal of heavy ram and a, thunderstorm on the night, yet his clot lies wire' not wet. At the time, however, that point escaped notice. At breakfast tie appeared to be a little ‘‘nervy'’ ami bad not. a great deal to say, but there was nothing in ins demeanour to cause any comment. After im had had his meal he announced his intention of going to Midhirst to have .the car put in order, and ho left the house, lie visited a garage in the. village, where the necessarv repairs were done, and he purchased petrol. Ho then went to a shop and used the telephone—and that is the last that was seen of him. The ear was lomid abandoned on Btaconsfield road, and after a search the wedding was put, off.

Newland and his intended bride appeared to he an affectionate couple, and intended after the wedding to leave for the Buy of Plenty, where lie. had obtained a" position. " Railway tickets had been purchased, and these were handed to the gill. Another unexplained feature is dial although he intended going to a i.ew position he lett his working dollies al liis previous place of employment. There also was left the marriage license. It is also understood tliid although the missing man had said he had engaged a taxi for the wedding, the taxi-driver lie approached some weeks ago was unable to carry out the work. Whether lie made other arrangements has not been ascertained.
