Repetition of the fierce gales which pieceded the November floods were experienced throughout the week-end, when a storm of cyclonic fury swept the State, causing many additional thousands of pounds’ worth of damage.

The whole eastern bay side was subjected to tremendous battering by the gale, which demolished the remains of piers, retaining walls, baths, and a large amount of repair work which had been put in hand since the last storm. Six yachts were blown ashore and damaged.

'Shipping was seriously disorgan ised.

So severe was the storm that the dangerous waters at Port Phillip Heads were almost impassable, and five .steamers which left Melbourne are still sheltering in Port Phillip Rav.

Owing to heavy rain, the tennis championship and all sports, were'postponed.

All forms of sport, except the swimming championships, were postponed to-day owing to the drenching rain. The Moorefield races tire off till Thursday and the women’s cricket test has been postponed till Monday. The Weather Bureau says that cyclonic disturbances are causing unsettled weather in the east and southeast of Australia, with the danger of floods, chiefly in the western and southern rivers. , BRISBANE, Jan. G. Boisterous weather caused the abandonment of all sports throughout the metropolitan area yesterday.
