BAD BARGAIN?
TRADE AGREEMENT
FEELING IN FREE STATE
LONDON, Jan. 5.
“Obviously I am pleased with the new Anglo-Irish agreement,” said Mr. J. 11. Thomas, Minister for the Dominions, to a Daily Mail representative.
The Minister added: “I want to see the Free State playing its part as a member of the British Commonwealth.”
He refused to make a prophecy regarding a settlement of the AngloIrish political dispute. The Times’ Dublin correspondent says that the first feelings of relief at the news of the Anglo-Irish agreement is succeeded by some dissatisfaction It was at first assumed that; the agreement involved the removal of duties, which would be of real value in genuinely relieving the Free State’s farmers, and would have been a blessing to consumers. However, the opinion is growing that the Free State has made a bad bargain, receiving little or nothing for her substantial concession to Britain.
