RELIEF WORK CONTINUES
GISBORNE UNEMPLOYED REVISED RATES EXPECTED Registered relief workers throughout the country who have had a fortnight, off during the holidays resumed the ordinary schedule as from this morning. Gisborne men proceeded to their usual jobs undertaken by local bodies, and several were engaged on the reconstruction .and bitumen work in Stout street he side Mr. W. D. Lysnar’s residence. A total of 70 are now engaged on the wit low clearing in the Waipaoa River, thiworif having reached the vicinity of Warenga-a-hika. Advice is expected shortly of detail' concerning the revised rates of No. 5 Scheme., This provides I'ou slightly h ghee allocations than those < litainiug during 1934. and it is estimated that the increased cost to the fond will he ap prux.mately £175X00 per annum. During the year there will be only lour varying scales of allocations. Broadly speaking. the highest scale will apply to the four main centres and adjoining boroughs : the second to the, secondary cities and larger towns; tin* third to Ihe smaller towns; and the fourth to the country areas. 'The gap between the city scale anil the country scale will lie reduced, and as far as children are concerned the rates will he brought up to Ihe maximum provided for in the On cm-il 'Vi .A<-l. 1930.
