OBITUARY

MRS. IT. 0. HANSEN

The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Isabella Rebecca Hansen, who had lived injjii.s district, for the past 49 years.

Deceased was born in Cheltenham 72 years ago, and came to Now Zealand and on to Gisborne 24 years later. Here she married Mr. Tl. O. Hansen, who died about 18 months ago, and had been living hero ever since. Mrs. Hansen was a member of the Baptist Church, and while in England she was a Sunday school teacher. She continued her connection with the church in her new home, and resumed Sunday school teaching here.

Those who knew her found tho late Mrs. Hansen of a kindly disposition and always ready to help anything worthy of assistance. Mrs. Hansen is survived by one daughter and two sons, the family comprising Mrs. R. H. Gumming, Gisborne, Mr. H. O. Hansen, Gisborne, and Mr. E. R. Hansen, To Puke. There are also two brothers, Mr. E. J. Fisher, 0.8. E., Burton-on-Trent, England, and Mr. R. W. Fisher, Gisborne, and one sister, Mrs. Letford, Suva. There are also 13 grandchildren.

The interment will take place at the Taruheru cemetery to-morrow afternoon, the funeral leaving deceased's late residence, No. 14 Rutene road, at 2.30 o’clock.

MISS RONA BIGNELL

After a long illness, Miss Rona Bigriell died early yesterday morning. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Bignell, Gisborne, and spent much of her early life at Kaitaratahi, where received her schooling. Miss Bignell was born in Gisborne 17 years ago. She had been in ill-health during the past three or four years, hut throughout she preserved her bright disposition. Tho interment took place late yesterday afternoon ;n the Tnrulioru cemetery, the funeral leaving the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The annual conference of the New Zealand Athletic Cycling and Axemen's Union, which opened at Invercargill on Saturday morning, was adjourned till the afternoon as a mark of respect to the late secretary, Mr. John Kennedy, to whom high tributes were paid.—P.A.
