MAN DROWNED
THREE OTHERS SAFE
BOAT CAPSIZED
ARAPUNI LAKE MISHAP
(For tress Association.) AUCKLAND, last night.
A fibbing expedition organised in Arapuni lake last, evening "by four wellknown residents of To Awannitu had a tragic ending, when one member of the parly. Mr. Frank Teddy. 45, married, was drowned when the boat capsized. Mr. Teddy was a blacksmith by trade and had two adult children. The other members of the party were Messrs. 0. Tv. gherley, R- A. Marsh, and P. Clifford, who were all fully clothed and reached the shore only after some difficulty. The party set out by car for Arapuni. The boat.'which was the property of Mr. Marsh, was driven by an outboard motor and was frequently used for fishing trips. When about eight miles above the dam. the boat, which was travelling at a fair speed, capsized and the four men were thrown into the water. They could all swim with the exception of Mr. Teddy. He, however, was able to reach the overturned boat, hut was imablo to obtain a good hold. After a short time he fell back into the water and was not seen again. Mr. Marsh, who is a strong swimmer, succeeded in pushing the boat ashore with Air. Clifford clinging to it, while Mr. Rherlcv was able fo reach the shore unaided. ' There was a strong wind Mowing at the time. The survivors righted the boat and, finding it was useless searching for Mr. Teddy in the dark, took Uio boat back to Arapuni, using an oar and an improvised paddle.
