MATCH AT WAINGAKE
WIN FOR COSMOPOLITAN
'[’he Cosmopolitan Club cricketers resumed their series of week-end matches during the week-end, when they visited Waingake to engage the Waingake team. There were many outstanding performances on the part of the visitors, Who won the match by an innings and 41 runs. Waim-akc, in their first innings, com•„Jed 65°runs, the only batsmen to reach double figures being J. .McKenzie (19) and T. White (10). A. Head, of the Cosmopolitan side, created something of a sensation when lp\took .a brilliant catch which resulted in the dismissal of the Waingake captain, L. Shanks. Read was fielding at point, and totJlc the catch off a delivery from J. Scholium ; the hall was coming at him full in the face, but he put up his hand to save Ins face, and suaceded in holding the hall.
Cosmopolitan Club opened with G. LWinter and 1). Hosier, who piled up the runs in great style, the former retiring at 64 and the latter at 59. The remainder of the side were dismissed more easily, and the innings closed for 169. |,. ,Shanks took .seven wickets for i-'t runs.
Hosier was a team in himself, and after making the second top score for Cosmopolitan Club, he proceeded to dismiss Waingake in their second innings in short order, finishing with the remarkable average of six wickets for four runs. The hat-trick was included in his performance, Hosier taking three wickets with successive halls in his second over, after having already taken a wicket with his first bail in the same over. Waingake were dismissed for 62, J. Shanks, 23 (not out), being the top-scorer.
