OBITUARY

MRS. JOHN GEBBIE

CANTERBURY PIONEER

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. To-day the death occurred of Mrs. John Gebbie, of Sumner, aged 93 years, who was in Canterbury before the arrival of the first four ships. Her father was Mr. Moses Cryer, who first arrived at Lyttelton in 1849, Mrs. Gebbie being then six. He engaged in road-making and later took over a large holding at Rakaia. Mrs. Gebbie .when 23 years of age married the son of the man after whom Gebbie’s Pass was named, the ceremony being performed by Bishop Selwyn.
