AUSTRALIAN TOURNEY CEAWFOBD IN FOBM MISS BUCK'S GREAT WIN ' MELBOURNE, Jan. 4. 'The Australian tennis championships were continued to-day. In the singles Crawford defeated A. H. Temple, 6—l, C—l, G—2; Turnbull defeated lirinstead, 9—7, G—4, (>—3; Bromwich defeated Kirby, 4 —6, o—2, 7—5, G—l; Cleuienger defeated Brugnon, li—l, G—4, G—2. , In the women's singles, Miss Round defeated Miss Maugher, G—2, (5—2; Mrs. Hopnian defeated Miss Weston, 11—9, (} —0; Miss Dearman defeated Miss Wynne, 6—3, G—2; Miss Blick defeated Mrs. Molesworth, G —4, 4—G, 7—5. Crawford showed that he was in good form in his first singles appearance at the championships. He hit all strokes strongly and with the utmost confidence. Miss Blick scored one of the greatest victories in her career in a thrilling three-sot battle against Mrs. Molesworth, the second ranked woman player in Australia, \ Miss Blick was six times held to match point beforo she could clinch. Both Englishwomen, Miss Round Miss Dearman, were in good form and had no difficulty in winning. Turnbull was not impressive add •was fully extended by Grinstead, the brilliant Queensland player. Bromwich, the youthful Now South Wales player who played brilliantly in the Victorian championships, again came to light to-day, defeating Kirby in a well-fought contest. Bromwich \s play was much admired. In the doubles, Bromwich and Huxley v. Perry and Hughes, the score was 4—G, 6—4, 6—3 (unfinished).

SOUTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS Heavy rain during the night and early on Thursday morning held up play in the South Island tennis championships at Timaru, a start not being made till Thursday afternoon. As a result only three finals were played. Results of championship games are as follow: — 'Mixed Doubles. —W. 0. Robertson and Mrs D. Barker (Timaru) beat 'll. Dymond and Mrs Beale (Christchurch), 0 * l g . Boys’ Singles.—Final: C. Penfold (Christchurch) beat R. Pattinson (West Coast), 6—3, 7—5. Girls’ 'Singles.—Final: M. Richardson (Christchurch) beat J. Eaton (Timaru), fi—3, 6—5.
