To allow some competitors to leave for the,ir homes this evening/ the sequence of games in the New Zealand chess championship tournament has again heen altered. . This morning the seventh hnal m twelfth.round of the tournament should have been commenced, two games ot which have already been completed, but the players decided to play the eighth final or'thirteenth round, with the result that Gyles met, Keliing, Hicks played Ersknie and Le Petit met Watt. Scott and Dunlop had already played their final round, which Dunlop won, giving him 7i wins in the tournament. He left for Duriedin this morning. Le Petit and Abbott are playing their game ~ in the seventh final or twelfth round this afternoon. . . At lunch to-day the championship had reached an interesting stage. Amongst the leading players Ersldrie, an _ exchampion, had 7pts. with an unfinished game to play and two rounds to go, and Dunlop, with all his games completed, had 7£ points. Beyer, with one game to play, had 7£pts, and Gyles, with two unfinished games and one to play, had 6pts Abbott, with two games to play, had Sip'ts, Le Petit, with one game to play had sipts,' and Scverne, who has two unfinished -Barnes to play and another two to play, has 4 pts, his unfinished games being with Gyles and Erskine. The present indications point to the championship being decided between Erskffie, Beyer, and Gyles, but Severne or Abbott might upset the calculations. Abbott' has yet to play his eighth final or thirteenth round against Beyer. The" morning game; which was the onlyone to be completed at the sitting, resulted in Le Petit and Watt playing to a d*'W- , ■'
