.» G.O.C. OP FORCES TERM EXTENDED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Government has decided to extend for two vears the appointment of : General Sir William Sinclair-Burgess "* genera] officer commanclins; the New Zealand Military Forces. Sir William was selected to fill this office for four years from April 1, 1931. and was due to retire on April 1 of this year. In' making this announcement, the. Minister oi Defence, the Hon. J. 0. Cobbe, spoke highly of Sir William's services, emphasising the efforts he had made to build up the territorial force ii:to an efficient military body. Referring to tiie work of remodelling and strengthening the defences of the country, which had been going on quietly for several months, Mr. Cobbe said that very shortly, much of the new plant would arrive in the Dominion and be ready for assembling. "Quite apart from his services in other directions." stated the Minister, "the Government would have been unwise to allow itself to be bereft of ths invaluable assistance that Sir William Sinclair-Burgess can give in bringing to the proper conclusion its defence plans."
