The Southland Racing Club’s, summer meeting concluded to-day in dull weather. The attendance was large. The track was yielding. The fotalisalor put through £12,268 10s against £10,402 on the second day last year. The total lor the meeting was £16,082 10s against £21,040 10s last year.
Gladstone Handicap.—l-1 Palatinate (Beale), 1; 6-6 Valiska, (C. Brodie), 2; 2- Golden King (Cooper), 3. Also ran : 7-6 Honest Maid, 4-2 Howlands, 8-8 Thornton, 6—4 Johnny, 9-7 Silver Issue, 3- Academy, 10-9 Ordenvood. Valaska, Golden Kitig and Palatinate made all the running and were in line, but Palatinate cleared out to win easily by 21 lengths, with the third half a head away. Then came Thornton. Tune, 1.45"
Makarcwa Trot Handicap.—l-2 Ozanam (Gallagher), 1; 6-6 Moko Child (Kern, 2; 5-10 Vacation (McConnell), 3. Also ran: 12-13 Bessio Freeman, 13-11 Bondi Chimes, 8-7 Chief Drusus and Silver Guy (coupled), 4-3 Chevalier, 7-8 Erinsla, 14-14 Mishap, 9-9 Picotec, 2-1 Royal Drive, 11-22 Christina’s Wave, 5-4 Embark, 10-5 Fairhaven. Won by a head and a head. Times, 3.32 4-5, 3.32, 3.56 1-5.
The Shorts.—2-2 Cherry Queen (Jenkins), 1; 1-1 Guarantee (Alackie), 2; 3-3 Unseen (Wilson), 3. Also ran: 4-4 Mayam, 5-5 Clara Bow. Cherry Queen led early from Unseen and Clara Bow. Guarantee moved up at the straight, but Cherry Queen easily kept clear and won by two lengths, with Unseen a head a wav. Mavam was fourth. Time, 1.14 4-5. "
Summer Handicap.—l-1 Nightform (Brodie). 1; 2-2 Colossian (Barr), 2; 8- Broken Rule (Phillips), 3. Also ran: 3-3 First Song. 4-4 Daring Deed, 9- Aeia, 5-5 Bay ' Bfthly, 10-10 Young Sentinel, 11-11 Impala, 6-6 Galleon, 7-8 Madam Pompadour. Daring Deed, Broken Rule and Madam Pompadour were early prominent. Then Bay Biddy joined in. Nightform and Colossian were bandy at the straight entrance and a keen, finish saw NtghU’onu win by a head with Broken Rule a length away. Milieu came Madam (Pompadour. Time, 1.44 25.

Also rail; 5-5 Steeton, 4-4 Tauiamai, 6-6 Arsenins Great Shot left the held early to lead by four lengths info tlm back from Tauiamai. Then Hunting Go joined in and the flirce leaders were in close order across the top, with Signaller next. Once in line, Great Shot came on to will easily by three lengths, with Signaller a neck away. Also ran ; 1-1 Capital, 11-9 Slaemish, 2-2 Bay Duke, 8-11 Silk Arrow, 10-7 Bowlands, 6- Coat of Arms, 7-6 Lady Kate, 9-10 Lady Leighton. Won by li lengths, and 21 lengths. Bay Duke was fourth. Time, 1,15. Final Handicap.—7-5 Grand Finale (Leekie), 1: 2-1 Guarantee (Alackie), 2; 10-9 Toreador (Wilson), 3. Also ran: 5-4 Cough. 3-3 Silver Sight, 4-5 Last Link, 9-8 Sailing Home, 6-7 Venite, 8-7 Totolomai, 1-2 Travenna. Travenna made all the running from Grand Finale, Totolomai and Sailing Home. Guarantee moved up across the top and threw out a challenge. Grand Finale got to the front to beat Guarantee by half a head with Toreador a length away. Then came Venite. Time, 1.42.
SYNAGOGUE
TO RACE IN AUSTRALIA (Pur Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The throo-ycar-old colt Synagogue, recently purchased' by Mr. C. 10. Robertson, of Wellington, will not be returning to Trent ham, as a, passage has been booked for him on the Watiganolln, leaving Auckland for Sydney on Saturday. Synagogue's future racing will all be done in Australia, as it is understood’ that Mr. Robertson resold him to an Australian sportsman after his race in the Great .Northern Derby.
The sum of ;tio2s in stakes was won at the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting by Messrs. 11. and N. Smith, of Gisborne. The Gisborne owners were sixth in the list, ol winning owners, at the head of "which was Mr G. Courtney, of Ngatea, in whose interests 'Gay Blonde and Gay Sheik uon at the Ellerslie meeting.
