Geoffrey Parkins; 38, and his nephew, William Reece, 12, were struck dead by lightning while sheltering under a tree during a violent storm at Walgett. Despite the fact that it was raining heavily, the fire station at Creswick, Victoria, was burned to the ground after it was struck by lightning. The observation tower was also destroyed.
