GOVERNOR-GENERAL
THE DUKE OF KENT AUSTRALIAN REQUEST EXCELLENT PROSPECTS (Eloc.’Tcl. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Received January 4, noon.) LONDON, Jan. 3.
The Australian Press Association says that a report that Mr. J. A. Lyons is asking llis Majesty to appoint the Duke of Kent is regarded in responsible quarterk as standing a better chance of fulfilment than any previous movement to secure a member of the Royal Family as Governor-General of Australia.
Though, tnere was no precedent for the King’-s son acting vicereeally in the Dominions, ;t is considered that the atmosphere for sucli ah appointment is now more • favorable, in view of the Duke of Gloucester’s successful tour. The Sun-llerald News Service says that although finality is unlikely pending Air. Lyons’ visit to London, there seems to he an excellent prospect of the Duke of Kent being Australia’s next •Governor-General.
The Duke of Kent’s marriage has enhanced the possibility of such a mission, because it is felt- that the position would essentially lcquire a married son.
