CONDITIONS STILL BAD
WAIOEKA WASH-OUT ROAD NOT RECOMMENDED Conditions are sliLi difficult at the wash-out on tlio Waioeka road, which was not recommended for traffic today. The continuation of rain in the valley handicapped the roadmen in opening the ford at Ohileott’s. This is the one which gave the greatest troubio on Wednesday, when 2ft. of water was reported to be running in it. An attempt was being made with sand bags to, improve the approach, but it was unlikely that it would be suitable for private cars for a few days. The resident patrol of the Automobile Association, Mr. A. A. Franklin, paid a visit to Ibe locality yesterday, and lie reported from Matnwai this morning to the (lisborne agent, Mr. G. Cvawshaw, that the Waioeka road today was not recommended for private motorists, and the position was doubtful for to-morrow. Service cars have been able to use the road without being delayed, and drivers who reached Gisborne from Opottki last night, said that in their heavy vehicles there was no serious difficulty. There was no heavy rain while they passed through the valley, but showers were st’ll falling.
