ENJOYABLE OUTING

A LONG PROGRAMME

A cuiisiilerable degree ol success was secured by the organisers of yesterday s picnic and sports for the children of unemployed workers, held at the Rutene mad reserve, Kaiti. There was an attendance of about 800 people, and all present joined heartily in the enjoyment of the outing. The programme eonipri>ed mainly races for children, and so successful had neon the appeal for prize funds, prior to the holding of Hie sports, that it, was possible to present each competitor in the races for younger children with a prize of some kind. Several contests for adults were included, and niueh'aiuusemenl- was caused by the competitions for the “Coleys’ ■Championship'' and other impromptu titles, the winners and placegetters in these events being rewarded with prizes of a character which added In the merriment of the crowd.
