A TRAGEDY AT KUROW

“Lincoln Downs,” Ivurow, North Otago, was the scene of a distressing traged}' recently, when Mr. James McVeigh, of Hakntaramea, fell over a precipitous bluff and was killed. It appears that Mr. M'Veigh, in company, with Mr. Alexander Fraser, was mustering the range, but the pair bad separated at a gully. Mr. M'Veigh signalled his intention of keeping high and working over the high bluff, where the accident occurred. At the end of the gully Mr Fraser waited for his comrade, but, although he hoard Mr. M'Veigh's dogs bark, his fellow musterer did not put ia an appearance. Hearing one of the dogs howling, -Miv Fraser sensed that a mishap badd occurred, but, on going to the bluff, could see nothing of his comrade. With Mr. James Duffy, ho scrambled to tho base of the cliff, where they located Mr. M'Veigh's The country was. so rugged that it was impossible to remove the body unaided, so the pair summoned Mr. A. G. Fraser, owner of the range, and a party was arranged to set out With pack horses. Mr. M'Veigh was only 28 years of ago, and a native of Duncannon, County. Tyrone, Ireland.
