Store pigs.—There, was a medium entry and an irregular sale, and values were generally easier. Weaners made 10s to 12s Gd; slips, 13s to 16s Gd; stores, Ids to 30s. Fat pigs.—There, was a fair demand for a large offering and solid export competition. Choppers made 30s to £4 6s; baconers, 45s to £3 11s Gd —average price per lb, 5Jd to sfd; porkers, 26s Gd.

There was a good tone at the opening sale of the year at Westfield. About 750 eattje were'offered with few of outstanding quality. Choice and prime steers remained firm at values ruling at the Christmas sale, but inferior sorts were hard to quit. Most of the cows and heifers offered were below standard. Thebidding was dull, with a general easing m values. Extra choice ox made 23s per 1001 b, choice and prime 20s to 225, secondary and plain, 16s to 19s; prime young cow and heifer beef 18s to 225, ordinary cow beef, 10s to 17s. Extra heavy prime steers made £8 7s 6d to £9; heavy prune, £7 15s to £8 ss; lighter prime, £7 12s 6d; light prime, £6 to £6 lbs; small and unfinished, £3 15s to £5 ss; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £5 5s to £6 ss : heavy prime £4 2s 6d to £5 2s 6d; lighter prime £3 to £4; other ltillable cows £1 5s to £2 17s 6d. > ■ There was a full yardibg ot calves with a shortage of htklvy runners. Competition was fairly keen, and good quality offering realised values on a par with those at last sale, while rougher sorts were a shade easier. Runners made 35s to 755, vealers 16s to 735. Sheep Were yarded to well up to average numbers, With a fair standard. Competition was brisk and values were firm at late rates for wethers, and a stronger tendency for ewes. Lambs were plentiful, and although the demand was quite good, price levels receded to those ruling before the Christmas sale. Wethers, prittie, made 22s 6d to 27s 3d ; unfinished, 18s to 22s 3d; ewes, prime, 12s 6d to 18s 6d; unfinished, 9s 9d to 12s 3d; hoggets, prime, 20s to 23. s 6d; unfinished, 15s to 19s; lambs, prime, 16s to 23s 6tl; unfinished, 10s to 15s.

The sale of a good yarding of pigs was not affected by the recent export restrictions. Bidding was keen throughout, especially for heavy prime baconers, and prices for these were on a par with those at the last sale. Porkers tended to be slightly easier. The demand for stores was light, with lower prices. Baconers realised 5-Jd to per lb, porkers to 6d. Baconers ranged from 52s to 745, porkers 33s to 495, and large stores 20s to 30s.
